Tin Man Gives Back

Support is a two-way street and Tin Man Heating and Cooling, Inc. likes to 'give back' to the community. "Tin Man Gives Back" is a way to help some of our favorite organizations by means of a friendly competition between the supporters of three local community groups. Tin Man Heating and Cooling will donate to each organization based on what place they come in at the end of Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The competition will begin on Wednesday March 1, 2023. With only 3 community groups competing, everyone is sure to come out a winner!
  • 1st: $1000
  • 2nd: $500
  • 3rd: $250
  • Contestant requires minimum 50 votes to qualify.
  • Voting: 1 vote per day per person.
  • Votes with unverified emails will not be counted.
  • One person cannot vote for other people. Play fair. It's okay if one person votes for family members, but not for multiple people (this is tracked and votes will be disregarded if this is done.)

Wood County Humane Society

Our Mission

The Wood County Humane Society exists to be a community leader providing services and resources that enrich the relationship between animals and humans through advocacy, education, and animal welfare.

What We Do

The Wood County Humane Society strives to provide the best possible care for the pets at the shelter. With this mission of care, we also strive to provide services to our community, who love their pets and animals too.

We offer a low-cost spay and neuter program for community cats, respond to calls of animal cruelty, neglect, and abandonment, a temporary safe haven for pets as their owners flee from domestic violence, and food assistance for Wood County residents who have temporarily fallen upon hard times and caretakers of community cats.

Our Goals

  • Education of Wood County citizens in the principles and practice of humane treatment of animals.
  • Investigation and resolution of animal cruelty and abuse reports.
  • Assistance to pet owners through discounted spay/neuter opportunities, advice, and referral.
  • Provision of a clean, healthy shelter environment for animals who have no one to care for them or that have been removed from abusive and neglectful situations.

The Brown Bag Project

The Brown Bag Food Project is a local non-profit that seeks to address issues of food insecurity in Wood County, Ohio.

The idea for the Brown Bag Food Project began in 2013 when pantry manager, Amy Holland, noticed a lack of immediate resources available to people struggling with food insecurity. Many found themselves in need of food due to unforeseen circumstances like the loss of a job, unexpected medical expenses, costly car repairs, or a delay in social services. To help, Amy began putting together and distributing bags of food to people in need. After operating informally for over two years, the Brown Bag Food Project attained non-profit status in 2015. Today, the Brown Bag Food Project has helped hundreds of individuals and families in Wood County dealing with food insecurity.

Our organization provides individuals with a 5-7 day supply of food and vital hygienic items, as well as pet food and supplies, to help meet their immediate needs, along with a resource guide to connect people to additional community resources for long-term support. We can provide a distribution/supply once every 2 months.

Our focus is to bridge the gap that many fall into from a lack of available resources and for those that do not qualify for any form of assistance. Out of the 13% of food insecure individuals in Wood County, 48% of those do not qualify for any outside help. These are the community members that need everyone to reach out and lend a hand.
